How to Create a Casting Gallery That Gets Noticed

Your photographs are the most important part of your profile. They are often the very first thing a casting director looks at and can determine whether they continue looking through your profile or move on to the next person.

At Bizzy Agency, we don’t just use your photographs to show what you look like – we use them to market you for different types of roles.

First Impressions Matter

Your first photograph (Slot 1) is your main marketing image.

It should always be:

● A close-up headshot.

● Smiling naturally.

● Current.

● Good quality.

● Sharp and well-lit.

For babies, this should be a tightly cropped headshot.

For older children and adults, it should be head and shoulders only.

Avoid using a full-length image as your first photograph.

Use All 10 Images

You can upload a maximum of 10 photographs.

We strongly recommend making use of as many of these as possible.

Your profile must contain at least 4 images, but more variety gives us more ways to market you.

A good gallery should include:

● Two different headshots.

● At least one smiling headshot.

● Two full-length photographs.

● Different outfits.

● Different expressions.

● Different looks.

Show Your Personality

Don’t upload ten photographs with exactly the same smile.

Casting directors are looking for people who can portray different characters.

Include a variety of natural expressions, such as:

● Friendly smile

● Gentle smile

● Serious

● Thoughtful

● Curious

● Confident

● Shy

● Mischievous

● Determined

Different expressions make your face look completely different and help clients imagine you in different roles.

Think Like an Actor

Your gallery should demonstrate your range.

For example, could your photographs suggest:

● The friendly neighbour

● The cheeky schoolboy

● The quiet, thoughtful child

● The business executive

● The caring mum

● The sporty teenager

● The serious drama role

● The fun commercial role

Every photograph should tell a slightly different story.

We May Change Your Main Photo

Many artists don’t realise this.

When a casting brief arrives, the booking team may move one of your other photographs into Slot 1 before submitting your profile.

For example:

If a client wants:

● A quiet child…

● A shy teenager…

● A serious businessman…

● A confident commercial smile…

We’ll often choose the photograph that best matches that role so it’s the very first image the casting director sees.

This is one of the ways we actively market our artists.

Keep Your Photos Current

Your photographs should always look like you do today.

Please replace them whenever you change:

● Hairstyle

● Hair colour

● Weight

● Glasses

● Braces

● Facial hair

● Overall appearance

Clients expect you to arrive looking like your photographs.

Image Quality

Your images should be:

✔ Sharp

✔ Well lit

✔ Natural

✔ In focus

✔ High resolution

Avoid:

✘ Filters

✘ Heavy editing

✘ Snapchat filters

✘ Sunglasses

✘ Hats (unless relevant)

✘ Busy backgrounds

✘ Dark photographs

✘ Group photographs

Clothing

Wear simple clothing without large logos or busy patterns.

Plain colours usually work best.

Choose clothing that reflects your age and looks natural.

Backgrounds

A plain background works perfectly.

You don’t need an expensive studio.

Good options include:

● Plain wall

● Neutral outdoor background

● Simple textured wall

● Soft greenery

Avoid cluttered rooms or distracting objects.

Lighting

Natural daylight is usually best.

Stand facing the light.

Avoid standing with windows or bright lights behind you, as this creates shadows on your face.

Different Looks

Show some variety.

Examples include:

● Casual clothes

● Smart clothes

● Hair up

● Hair down

● Jacket

● T-shirt

● Different colours

These don’t need to be dramatic changes—just enough to help clients imagine you in different situations.

Babies & Young Children

Natural photographs are always best.

Capture genuine expressions while they’re:

● Playing

● Smiling

● Laughing

● Exploring

● Reading

● Eating

● Interacting naturally

Avoid forcing smiles or overly posed photographs.

Adults

Adults benefit particularly from showing different character types.

Your gallery should demonstrate that you could convincingly play a range of roles.

Common Mistakes

● Only uploading selfies.

● Using old photographs.

● Wearing sunglasses.

● Uploading heavily edited images.

● Using the same expression in every photograph.

● Forgetting full-length images.

● Making Slot 1 a full-length image instead of a headshot.

● Cropping the top of the head.

● Leaving fewer than four photographs on your profile.

Remember

Your profile is not a family photo album.

It is your professional marketing portfolio.

Every photograph should help a casting director imagine you in another role.

The more variety you give us, the more opportunities we have to market you effectively.

A well-planned gallery can significantly increase your chances of being shortlisted for castings.
